Businesses Called On To Pay Tourist Fund Balance

GLOUCESTER businesses have not contributed their total share of money agreed to fund a marketing campaign to promote Barrington Tops.
The matter was raised at April's Gloucester Shire Council meeting after its economic development committee voiced concerns.The $1 million campaign to run over two years was launched last month and is designed to stimulate visits to Gloucester and the Barrington Tops.The council committed $12,500 over 2007 and 2009, subject to businesses and tourism operators raising a total of about $36,000 over the two years.Gloucester visitor information centre tourism manager Wendy Hughes said between $14,000 and $15,000 of the first year's contribution has been raised and she was confident the balance would be found.Hunter Regional Tourism acting chief executive officer Sheridan Ferrier said her accounts showed 25 per cent of the money owed had been collected and the campaign had been very well received.
