THE Hunter Valley Wine Industry Association is seeking funding for a three-year marketing campaign.

Association spokesman Will Creedon addressed a recent Cessnock City Council meeting asking for $75,000 to kick start the campaign.

The group was formed earlier this month to focus on marketing the region's products and win back a share of the market lost to interstate wineries.

It took over the roles of the Hunter Valley Vineyard Association and Wine Hunter marketing.

The council was unable to provide the $75,000 but said it would reassess its funds at the end of the first quarter of the financial year.

The council already gives $300,000 a year to its local tourism body.
